Everyone has their story. My radio career started in 2004 with twelve listeners on the Internet tuned into a weekly podcast. That humble beginning led to a job in the sixth-largest market in America working on the Top-Rated sports talk station - SportsRadio 610 in Houston, TX. In 2016 I had the opportunity to broaden my opportunities with a contract position at Houston Public Media.

A native of suburban Chicago and raised on legendary talk radio and turned my love and passion for radio into opportunity. Selling commercial insurance benefits by day, I started a weekly podcast dedicated to Ole Miss sports called The Grove Report. After three years and the addition of nine radio affiliates and an Internet audience that grew to more than 60,000, the show expanded into The Sports Tap, a syndicated daily show dedicated to Southern college football talk with 34 affiliates in the Southeast.

A History Of Ratings Success:

Whether hosting morning drive in Mobile, AL, middays in Birmingham, AL or weekends or evenings in the nation's sixth-largest market - Houston, TX, I have always produced results. In Mobile, where I co-hosted SportsCenter with Brien & Lee at WNSP, ratings jumped from a 4.8 to a 7.3 among men 25-54 in less than a year. As the co-host of The Roundtable at WJOX in Birmingham, ratings again improved and the show was the Top-Rated show in its timeslot with an 11 share among men 25-54, and the fourth-highest rated show among all listeners. Since moving to SportsRadio 610 in Houston, ratings success has continued.

Originally a fill-in and weekend host, my Saturday 11:00am - 3:00pm grew from 9,200 listeners in July of 2010 to 39,600 in March of 2014, while ratings increased from 0.9 to 2.9. Since taking over the 7:00pm - 11:00pm weekday evening timeslot as co-host of the Bstraw & PaulyG Show ratings have outperformed the previous year every month to where there's now a 139% increase in the ratings from February of 2014 to February of 2015. Because Ratings Matter:

It is often said that ratings are what define success or failure in radio. With ratings success comes heightened interest among participating sponsors and increased revenue potential. With ratings failure typically comes unemployment, a harsh but accurate reality of the business.

In the box to the left the ratings for every sports talk show in Houston, TX (America's 6th largest market) are ranked for January of 2015.

In how many markets would a nighttime program produce the third-highest ratings in the market - better than all four morning-drive shows in town and better than three of the four afternoon-drive programs? That is the success I have helped build as lead host of the Bstraw & PaulyG Show.

During the fall of 2015 The Bstraw & PaulyG Show produced the highest ratings among sports talk radio in Houston in September, October, November and December.

Appointment Radio:

The goal of every Program Director is to create talk shows that generate "must listen" content. The box on the right ranks the most popular hour of every sports talk program in Houston, TX (Market 6). Once again, the results for a program in the 7:00pm - 11:00pm timeslot are simply unprecedented. The Bstraw & PaulyG Show's most popular hour produces the second-best ratings in Houston. Even more amazing, this 7:00pm - 8:00pm hour outperforms the highest-rated hour for every morning and every afternoon drive program in town, and a time period outside of what most programers consider "prime time" (6:00am - 7:00pm) generates the 7th-largest audience.
